I’ve got a few things I’d like to say to past me as well, but I think my time will be better used making sure future me isn’t ticked off at current me! 🙂

I have some choice words to say to past me but instead of thinking of words to say to him, I will be working on things so that the future me will say only nice things!

So nice of you, Amanda! I’m always working on trying to be thankful for what I’ve got! There’s a poem I like that goes “As a rule, man’s a fool. When it’s hot, he wants it cool. When it’s cool he wants it hot, never wanting what he’s got. Always wanting what it’s not.” I’ve been guilty of this in the past. I hope I’m getting better.

Thanks, Graham. I’ve been sitting on this post for a while because I didn’t like the way it read. It feels choppy to me, so it’s nice to hear you say that.

Love the way you presented this. Hopefully I’m not too much of a jerk. I used to be somewhat of a jerk, but have done things to remedy that past jerk-self of mine.

You’re so right on with the necessity for delayed gratification. At the heart of debt and other self-defeating things we do to ourselves is the desire for immediate gratification. My solution is to develop a gratitude habit. Works wonders for not wanting what I don’t already have. Thanks for the great read!

I think what fails to hit home with most people regarding delayed gratification is the fact that the future you gets to enjoy more tomorrow. It’s more because of the power of compounding! For that reason alone I’ve had no problem convincing myself to give into delayed gratification.

And this is also a great reminder. It’s so easy to get stuck in a trap.

“The more debts you have, the less of “your” money you get to keep. So you go to work, and someone else gets your money. Sound good?”

I agree, that sounds like a BS deal!

Thanks for sharing.
