What's it like to pay off tens of thousands of dollars of debt while making an average salary in a high-cost-of-living city? We started our journey in April 2017 $76K in debt - $25K in credit card debt and a little more than $50K in student loan debt. We made a budget, stopped paying for things we didn't care about, and found some side hustles. Almost two years later, we've paid off half of our original debt - including all of our credit card debt and one student loan - despite numerous challenges and roadblocks.
Our blog documents our debt repayment journey: the highs and the lows, the successes and the failures, the things we've planned for and the things that threaten to derail us. We keep it real. Paying off debt is not quick or easy, but we want to inspire other people to ditch their own debt and regain their financial freedom in the process. The $76K Project also explores topics like job satisfaction, work-life balance, and mental health.
